I have recently started to search and scramble around this World Wide Web in hopes that I might find outlets for yours truly to get noticed. Most of these webzines as they’re called pay nothing, but getting published is getting published…That being said, please take a look at the posting below. I would like to submit a few postings in hopes that it turns out to be something…it could be nothing…but it could be everything!

Cube-Side, a new liberal-minded webzine, is looking for columnists! Cube-Side was created as a gift for the working world and as a remedy for the onset of boredom that occurs post-lunch in the 9-5 world. If you are a writer who feels they have something interesting to contribute to the Cube-Side audience, we'd like to hear from you. Currently we are looking specifically for entertainment and music columnists - movie reviews, album reviews, satirical pop culture columns, celebrity columns (anything that is well-written and interesting). While we don't have set guidelines for these particular areas, we are not looking for location specific reviews of concerts and events (we will consider those types of columns on a case by case basis). Submission Guidelines: If you are interested in submitting your work, please send us a sample column to submissions@cube-side.com. DO NOT SEND US YOUR BLOG UNLESS YOU CHOOSE A SPECIFIC ENTRY THAT YOU WOULD LIKE US TO READ (and if you go that route, please note that it is your blog in the email and that you'd like us to read a particular entry). Please send your sample as a word attachment that is no longer than 1,000 words. If we like your work, we'll contact you to do a guest column and go from there. There is a great possibility that this will turn into a bi-weekly gig if all goes well and you seem like a fit for Cube-Side. I've done some web work m'self and this sounds legit. Might I suggest as well that if you approach a newspaper, many will pay if you pitch them a good story/column idea. Seriously! Same goes with smaller magazines. Good luck! And remember: In a dog eat dog world, look out for #1- aka self-promotion to the max.

Okay, not that I´m the poster child for self promotion but here are some pointers:
ReplyDelete(1) Leave lots of comments on blogs you like...people read comments and if they like what you say, you just might steal away the audience.
(2) Post a link on a MySpace Profile. Yes, it is for 12 year olds and men seeking the companionship of 12 year olds but I´ve landed a reader or two from this method.
(3) Whore yourself out to everyone you know, meaning mention your blog whenever possible.
(4) Pay people. Okay, I haven´t sunken this low but it sounds appealing.
At the end of the day, your audience will grow. Just keep writing and eventually someone in a publishing house will pick you up. And when they do, bring me along? I´ll make it worth your while (wink)!
Okay, off to drink some ale with some Brits. Yup. Headed to Spain and befriended some Brits. Go figure.

I remember the days when one would come by this site and actually read something that was freshly written. Now I have to go to Jennifer Paige for my entertaining reading....
